Anne Corless

Anne Corless works in the creative arts as an artist and medical/ bio-sciences illustrator, and as a writer. Qualified as an art instructor and as an Adobe Creative Educator, Anne enjoys running art workshops and teaching art on specialist art holidays and on cruise ships.

With a love of the natural world Anne’s studio is full of drawings and paintings of people, animals and birds, plants and landscapes, created in a variety of media from delicate pencil drawings, charcoal studies and intricate small paintings on paper to large oil paintings on canvas. She is an accomplished digital artist.

Born in the UK, Anne spent her youth living around the world; in Nigeria, Australia, Kenya, Saudi Arabia and South Africa before settling with Bob, her Lancastrian husband to raise their family on the beautiful Lancashire coast. With the family long ‘all grown up’ they now enjoy sharing their love of travel.

Over the years, Anne has been an Ambassador and Artist in Residence at Derwent’s “magical” Pencil Museum in the Lake District and has taught art workshops; for Derwent and Leisure Painter/ The Artist magazines, for BBC Radio Lancashire as Artist in Residence on the Afternoon Show, at Nature in Art in Gloucestershire and at Patchings Art Festival. She has given a BBC Arts Master Class on portrait painting to an invited audience live on air at BBC Radio Lancashire. As Artist in Residence at BBC Radio Merseyside she has run workshops supported by Up For Arts and the Campaign for Drawing.

Anne enjoys writing about the world of fine art for art magazines and blogs. With an interest in the ‘business side of art’ Anne has enjoyed being a member of the Fine Art Committee (previously Chair for 5 years) of the Fine Art Trade Guild. She also served as North West Branch Master of the Guild for 3 years, running regular educational and networking events for art professionals in the region. At the invitation of the Guild, Anne has given talks for artists; at the Spring Fair International (at the NEC), at Art and Framing Conventions and at Making Pictures events. She has represented the Guild at the Art and Framing Roadshow across the UK.

Anne is a founder member, former Chair for 4 years and Honorary Life Member of the Association of Animal Artists (UK), a Signature member of Artists for Conservation (based in Canada) and a professional member of the Association of Illustrators (UK).

Anne has enjoyed a career as a Registered Medical Illustrator and is on the Academy of Health Sciences Register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. With a background in nursing and midwifery (Registered Nurse/ Registered Midwife), a B.A. (Hons) Degree in Design (specialising in scientific and natural history illustration) and a post graduate qualification (MAA) in medical art she has worked with clients from around the world. Artwork is created using traditional and digital media. Anne is a professional member of the Medical Artists Association (UK) and the Association of Medical Illustrators (USA).

Anne enjoys sharing her love of exploring art materials and techniques and says: “We are all on this artistic journey together!”
